The Cleveland Monsters fell to the Utica Comets (25-30-5-4) 4-1 on Sunday afternoon at Rocket Arena. With the loss, the Monsters are now 33-25-6-1 and are currently in fourth place in the AHL’s North Division standings.
Utica’s Marc McLaughlin scored the only goal of the first period at 11:40 to give the Comets a 1-0 lead headed into the second. The Comets added two more in the middle frame with goals from Jonathan Gruden at 4:08 and Calen Addison at 11:49 to make it 3-0 Utica through 40 minutes. Cleveland’s Jack Williams scored the Monsters’ only goal of the game at 12:40 in the third assisted by Luca Del Bel Belluz and Luca Pinelli but Utica’s Nathan Légaré notched an empty net tally giving the Comets a 4-1 victory.
Cleveland’s Ivan Fedotov stopped 19 shots in defeat while Utica’s Nico Daws made 26 saves for the win.
