The Cleveland Monsters beat the Toronto Marlies 3-1 on Saturday evening at Rocket Arena. With the win, the North Division Finals presented by Ten10 are tied 1-1.
Cleveland’s Roman Ahcan opened the first period scoring at 5:54 off feeds from Zach Aston-Reese and Hunter McKown. Mikael Pyyhtiä tacked on a goal of his own at 18:53 assisted by Luca Del Bel Belluz and Will Butcher to give the Monsters a 2-0 lead through 20 minutes. The Marlies’ Benoit-Olivier Groulx scored the only goal of the second period at 15:32 while short-handed to make it 2-1 Monsters heading into the final frame. Cleveland’s Luca Pinelli scored the only goal of the third period at 12:54 with helpers from Butcher and Stanislav Svozil to give the Monsters the 3-1 victory.
Cleveland’s Zach Sawchenko stopped 17 shots for the win while Toronto’s Artur Akhtyamov made 21 saves in the loss.
