The Cleveland Monsters beat the Rochester Americans (24-18-5-3) 4-2 on Wednesday night at Rocket Arena. With the win, the Monsters are now 28-16-6-1 and are currently in third place in the AHL’s North Division standings.
Rochester’s Olivier Nadeau opened the scoring at 2:37 and Konsta Helenius added another at 17:02, but Cleveland’s Zach Aston-Reese tipped one in at 19:52 assisted by Guillaume Richard and Brendan Gaunce to make it 2-1 Rochester at the end of the opening frame. The Monsters’ Luca Marrelli scored on the man-advantage at 11:10 of the middle stanza, marking his first professional goal, with helpers from Owen Sillinger and Gaunce to tie the game. Cleveland’s James Malatesta added another at 13:29 with assists from Dysin Mayo and Luca Del Bel Belluz to send the Monsters into the third up 3-2. The Monsters’ Mikael Pyyhtiä scored the only goal of the third period with an assist from Mayo to give Cleveland the 4-2 win.
Cleveland’s Ivan Fedotov stopped 24 shots for the win while Rochester’s Devin Levi made 26 saves in defeat.
The Monsters enter the weekend at home when they face off against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on Friday, February 27th, at 7:00 p.m. at Rocket Arena.
