KEYS TO SUCCESS:
- BALANCED ATTACK: In Friday’s season opener, the Monsters enjoyed production from eight different players; five forwards, two defensemen and one goaltender, three of the team’s four forward lines and two defensive pairings.
- V FOR VICTORY: After third-year net-minder Matiss Kivlenieks stopped 27 pucks in victory on Friday, the highly-anticipated North American debut of Finland-born goaltender Veini Vehvilainen is expected on Saturday afternoon. Following a standout season with Karpat in Finland’s Liiga last year, Vehvilainen was named Liiga’s top goaltender for the second consecutive campaign and helped lead the Finns to a Gold Medal at the IIHF World Championships.
- FIRST TIME’S THE CHARM: In the Monsters’ 3-2 Friday road win over the Rocket, Cleveland RW Trey Fix-Wolansky netted the game-winning strike, his first professional regular-season goal, and D Andrew Peeke posted his first professional point, an even-strength assist.
