Monsters to host Pride celebration on Sunday versus Wolves
Apr 23, 2021The Cleveland Monsters are proud to host Pride Night on Sunday, April 25, at 4:00 p.m. when the team takes on the Chicago Wolves at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse. The Monsters will welcome the LGBTQ community and their allies to celebrate the team’s inaugural Pride Night and highlight the organizational outreach between the Monsters, Cleveland Cavaliers, Canton Charge and Cavs Legion.
The Monsters will host guests from the LGBT Community Center of Greater Cleveland, PLEXUS, CANAPI, Studio West, and Equality Ohio at Sunday’s game as participating partners in both the Cavs and the Monsters Pride Nights. The Monsters and the Cleveland Cavaliers Organization’s Pride initiatives are led in part by an internal Team Member Resource Group of LGBTQ staff and allies called Pride in the Land.
The Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse curtain wall and Terminal Tower will light up in the colors of the Pride Flag along with Pride inclusions in the Power Portal and throughout the inside of the arena. Several Monsters’ players will sport specialty Pride Tape on their hockey sticks during the game in support of the cause. Hockey sticks wrapped in Pride Tape from Justin Scott, Tyler Sikura and Dillon Simpson will be signed and available to bid on through the DASH auction platform from noon to 7:00 p.m. with more details on bidding available through the Monsters Mobile App.
Additionally, both teams will use commemorative Pride pucks during warmups on Sunday which will then be available to purchase. A total of 80 autographed pucks will be sold in a mystery puck format for $25 per puck (limit of two per transaction). The pucks will be available on the DASH platform from noon to 7:00 p.m. and through the Monsters Mobile App. All proceeds from the pucks and player sticks will benefit the Community AIDS Network/Akron Pride Initiative, a local group that serves and promotes the well-being of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Questioning (LGBTQ) community and persons at risk and/or affected by HIV through education, support services, quality housing, and advocacy.
The Monsters Team Shop will offer the specialty Monsters Pride Collection as the Item of the Game. The Monsters Pride Collection includes a Tee, Hoodie, Lanyard and Drink Coozie. Proceeds from this collection will benefit Pride in the CLE, presented by the LGBT Community Center of Greater Cleveland, with the mission to enrich the lives of the diverse LGBTQ+ community through advocacy, support, education, and celebration. Earlier this week the Monsters and the Cleveland Cavaliers Organization formally joined Ohio Business Competes, a non-partisan coalition of businesses committed to achieving nondiscrimination policies at the state level in order to attract the best talent, to increase Business-to-Business & Business-to-Consumer relationships, and to grow Ohio’s economy. The Monsters, Cavs and Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse also announced earlier this season that to maintain and foster an inclusive environment that is welcoming to everyone, two restrooms at the FieldHouse have been permanently converted into all-gender facilities in order to increase safe and appropriate accommodations for all visitors. The new gender-inclusive restrooms will provide comfortable and convenient restroom access to transgender and gender non-conforming guests, as well as any guest who may require the assistance of a caregiver, parent or child of a different gender.
