Q+A: Catching up with Jaime Sifers
With the start of Blue Jackets Training Camp and Preseason, hockey season is getting closer! ClevelandMonsters.com caught up with alternate captain Jaime Sifers at camp to find out more about his summer training and his goals for the upcoming season.
ClevelandMonsters.com: You got to spend some time with the Calder Cup, what was that experience like?
Jaime Sifers: My weekend with the Cup was amazing. I brought the Cup to Burlington, VT and was able to share it with my friends and my family up there. First, I visited the University of Vermont and had some pictures taken on the ice where I spent 4 years playing college hockey. I also organized a golf outing with about 30 of my friends. Everywhere I brought the Cup seemed to put smiles on everyone’s faces. Seeing the happiness the Cup brought to everyone made the experience very memorable.
What else have you been up to this summer?
I tried to take it easy after winning the Cup. Spent a lot of time with my wife and daughters and took a trip to New England to visit family and friends. I returned to Cleveland in August where I continued to train and prepare for the upcoming season.
Any personal goals for the upcoming season?
This summer my focus was to gain back as much strength as I could to prepare for another long season. My goals are to show up to training camp healthy and ready to give my best, and play my best.
What do you think of the new Cleveland Monsters name and uniforms?
I think the new name is great. I’ve had a chance to see the new jerseys and I think the fans and players will enjoy the new colors. The “change” in name won’t change the way our team will play this year. We will still show up every night ready to play fast, tough, and defend our championship.
In general, what are you most excited for this upcoming season?
I’m looking forward to getting back with my teammates and meeting the new guys in the organization. Throughout my career I’ve always enjoyed spending time on the road with the guys. It’s been a short summer but I’m hungry to get back on the ice.
Looking are there any dates, match-ups, or road trips you are looking forward to?
I’m really just looking forward to the first weekend right now. Raising our championship banner will be a moment I’ll never forget and I can’t wait to begin our championship defense.
Now that you are back in Cleveland is there anything you are looking forward to doing?
This year I was able to see a show in the Theater District and will definitely try to see another at some point. I’d also like to take my kids to an Indians game. My days are usually filled with family activities. My girls love to visit to Cleveland Zoo, aquarium, and botanical gardens. Other than that you can probably find me at a playground with them! As far as food goes, I always enjoy meals at TownHall in Ohio City and Bamba in Rocky River.
