Players and front office to foster dialogue through new community initiative with CMSD

The Cleveland Monsters, American Hockey League affiliate of the NHL’s Columbus Blue Jackets, announced its new HocKEY Assist Program on Monday.  The HocKEY Assist program is an after-school program geared toward middle school youth in the Cleveland Metropolitan School District (CMSD) to encourage, empower and mentor local youth. This new program, which will take place at three select CMSD schools, was created to provide a platform for students to thrive in a positive atmosphere and have meaningful interactions with people in the community. This program will provide students opportunities to engage and interact with Monsters players, and members of the Monsters front office, on a variety of important topics impacting today’s youth.

“We are excited to be partnering with the Cleveland Monsters,” said Lisa Naylor, Director of Community Engagement and Wrap-Around Strategy for the Cleveland Metropolitan School District. “The HocKEY Assist program is not only exposing our scholars at Harvey Rice, Robert H. Jameson, and Adlai Stevenson to the sport of hockey, but the students will be mentored and engaged in thought-provoking sessions with players and other members of the Monsters organization.”

“We are thrilled to be teaming up with CMSD for this amazing initiative,” said Monsters VP of Marketing and Communications Pam Frasco. “Giving back to our community has always been important to us and we couldn’t be more excited about the opportunity to provide our local youth with a platform that allows them to engage and interact on topics that are imperative to their growth.”

The program will include approximately 50 middle school students during each visit. At each visit there will be three topics discussed with these students that are crucial to their overall development. Those areas that will give youth the opportunity to engage with members of the Monsters organization are self-confidence, leadership and overcoming adversity.  All students that participate and complete the program will receive a ticket to a future Monsters game.
