Blue Jackets Assign LW Sonny Milano to Monsters
Blue Jackets’ 2014 1st-round draft choice appeared in eight games for Columbus this season
The Cleveland Monsters, American Hockey League affiliate of the NHL’s Columbus Blue Jackets, announced Saturday the assignment of left wing Sonny Milano to Cleveland. A 6’0”, 195 lb. left-handed native of Massapequa, NY, Milano, 22, was selected by the Blue Jackets in the first round (16th overall) of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft and supplied 1-0-1 with an even rating in eight appearances for Columbus this season.
In 70 career NHL appearances for the Blue Jackets spanning the past four seasons, Milano suppled 15-9-24 with ten penalty minutes and a -10 rating. In 136 AHL appearances spanning parts of four seasons from 2014-18 for the Springfield Falcons and the Monsters, Milano contributed 34-54-88 with 50 penalty minutes and a -4 rating and added 4-4-8 with four penalty minutes and a +6 rating in 17 appearances for the Monsters during the 2016 Calder Cup Playoffs, helping Cleveland claim the 2016 Calder Cup as AHL Playoff Champions.
Prior to his professional career, Milano notched 22-46-68 with 24 penalty minutes and a-17 rating in 50 OHL appearances for the Plymouth Whalers during the 2014-15 season and added 24-37-61 with 33 penalty minutes and a -6 rating in 63 USHL appearances for the USA Hockey National Team Development Program spanning two seasons from 2012-14. Milano additionally competed internationally for Team USA at the 2015 and 2016 IIHF U20 World Junior Championships and the 2018 IIHF World Championships.
